The History of Lockside Trading Company in Young’s Point began in 1987 with the purchase of the historic Young’s family homestead who founded the community of Young’s Point, Ontario (built in the 1850’s). The Building was originally the lockmasters house at Lock 27 on the Trent Severn Waterway, and the home of the Stoney Lake Navigation Company, a steamboat company that offered transportation for the area.

Lockside Trading Company was born when owner Susan Mattucci began the business with her then-partner, the late Brian Holmes, to pursue a dream of country living and fulfill the need for a store in Kawartha Lakes cottage country. Over the past 31 years, the store has grown from a tiny 400 square foot shop to now covering more than 7000 square feet in size, and a 3 time national awards winning retailer. Operating year round and attracting more than 100,000 visitors a year, so many in fact, that in 1997 it was classified as an Ontario Major Attraction making Young’s Point a happening place.

Brian, passed away on June 30, 2003 after a 10-month battle with cancer. Since then, Sue’s son Mike Mattucci has come on board keeping up their vision of Lockside and more.
