I love t-shirts! I am always on the lookout for fun shirts for the family so when I came across this activity on Pinterest I knew I had to try it with the boys.
We bought most of the stuff at the dollar store – except the t-shirt which I found at Wal-Mart. All that is needed is a white t-shirt, fine sandpaper and good quality crayons. The more coarse sandpaper will provide more texture on the shirt. Give them all a try.
Directions For Making A Sandpaper Printed T-Shirt
Color a fun picture on the sandpaper. (Remember that the image will be reversed.) Once the picture is colored go back over it giving the sandpaper an extra thick layer of crayon.
Place a piece of cardboard inside the t-shirt to keep the design from bleeding through. Position the sandpaper right side down on the t-shirt.
Place a piece of parchment paper or paper towel on top of the sandpaper to protect the iron. Iron (cotton setting) the sandpaper for about 30 seconds. Gently lift one edge and check to see if you have a good transfer before removing the sandpaper. Iron a bit more if needed.
To set the color, place a couple of paper towels on top of the design and iron. This will remove some of the extra wax. Toss t-shirt in the dryer for about 20 minutes to set the color. Launder by itself the first time.
