Other things to see in the city – Holyrood Palace and National museum of Scotland. Nearby places include The Forth Bridge and Rosslyn chapel (from the film ‘The Da Vinci code’).

Stirling The_Falkirk_WheelSurrounded by and the centre of much of the history of Scotland, Stirling castle was the most strategic of Scotland’s castles. Beautifully restored by Historic Scotland, it is another must see, as is the Wallace monument on Abbey Craig, and the battlefield site and visitor centre at Bannockburn. The area also boasts the Kelpies, many Roman remains and the Falkirk Wheel which is a modern version of the popular Peterborough Lift Lock in Ontario.

Skye
The Isle of Skye is geologically diverse and one of the most beautiful of all the Scottish islands. Strange rock formations stretch up its east coast along an ancient landslip known as the Quiraing. There is much to see on the way to Skye including stunning views over Glengarry, Eilean Donan Castle, and the beautiful village of Plockton, nestled in a lovely bay with palm trees along the shore.

Outlander Fans
For fans of the popular Outlander Series, the Kingdom of Fife to the north of Edinburgh has the villages of Culross and Falkland where much of the series was filmed and it also contains St. Andrews Golf Course – known as the birthplace of golf, for devotees of the game of golf.
