3 Steps to Success for Bert’s Appliances

Celebrating 50 Years in Business

No stranger to hard work, Bert Macey had been a Seaman on the Great Lakes, a Seaman on the Merchant Marines, he drove a streetcar in Toronto, and later worked as a serviceman for General Electric.

In 1969 Bert and his wife Rosemarie bought the Dandelion Snack Bar at Hickory Beach near Fenelon Falls. There, they operated the Bert Maceysnack bar and Bert continued to do service repairs. Soon appliances were stocked at the snack bar and Bert was doing more and more business in Appliance Sales & Service.

Eventually, Bert and Rosemarie sold the snack bar and started a showroom in the basement of their Fenelon Falls home. Nine years later they would move the business to town, where they purchased and renovated a Ford Car Dealership.

When they weren’t working, Bert and Rosemarie enjoyed boating on the Trent Severn, Georgian Bay and the Niagara River. “Bert was the guy who could always make you laugh and he could fix just about anything.” Rosemarie smiles remembering his outdoor “adventures and misadventures”, “whether snowmobiling or boating, funny things were always bound to happen with Bert.”

When it came to business she smiles… “he always made sure that his customers knew that they were his absolute number one priority – he was grateful for their business and for him supporting his local community was everything.”

Bert suffered from Alzheimer’s and both he and Rosemarie were supporters of the Alzheimer Society. This was back in the day when

people were not discussing the illness to the degree that they are today. Bert was open about his condition and he talked freely about it, educating whoever he could. Bert died at 82 years of age in Fenelon Falls, he and Rosemarie were together over 50 years.

Bert instilled his pride in his work ethic to his family and staff. Fast forward to today and three generations of family are following in his footsteps. The goal is still the same today in 2018 as it was in 1969 where on a plaque on the wall it read:
