Kiefer Sutherland Mentions Peterborough on National TV

Local man Steven Barker must be feeling pretty proud right about now. On this morning’s Live with Kelly show, Kiefer Sutherland, the acclaimed actor who grew up in Toronto, explained to Kelly Ripa how, while he was performing at Peterborough’s Musicfest this year, he met someone backstage who said, “Is it true that you were friends with Steven Barker?”

Kiefer explained to Kelly that Steven was his “best friend of all time”. The two were best friends from the time he was 10 years old all the way up until Kiefer left Canada, and the pair started playing guitar together when they were kids. Kiefer says, “He was really important in my life.”

Kiefer went on to say how, in between one of his songs, he said to the audience, “I heard Steven Barker is out there and if that’s true I’d really love to see you.” He continued, “And he stood up and he was way at the back and everybody started clapping, no-one got in the way and I saw him for the first time after 15 years from that night”.

Tracey Randall, General Manager of Musicfest, says, “I just spoke to Steve Barker of Omemee over the phone, as he had not heard the news and was quite thrilled to be a part of Kiefer’s story on national TV.”
